Social media users have been left heavily divided over the question of whether to ‘slow down’ buying your kids multiple Christmas presents
A TikTok video has sparked heated debate among parents as to what age you ease up on giving your children Christmas gifts.
You may’ve found out Santa isn’t real by the age of 10 – sorry to break it to you if you still hadn’t realized – but that didn’t mean you stopped getting a stocking.
But when you reach the age of 30? 45? Should your parents still be shelling out on multiple Christmas gifts for you? You may still be a child in their eyes but should the festive hype still the same?
Marty and Nikki took to their TikTok page to reach out to other parents of adult children and ask them for their opinions.
The video sees the parents question: “Parents of adult children: At what age did you guys start slowing down on Xmas gifts for them?”
Marty explains that their kids are aged 29, 23 and 22 and they also have several children-in-law alongside a ‘couple of grandbabies’ to add into the equation in the last few years.
With such a large family, the parents decided to still buy presents for all of the kids but when their kids suggested to do a Secret Santa for the first time this year when it came to the adults, they took them up on the offer, Nikkie tells TODAY.com.
However, this ultimately means they’re ‘not gonna be buying for all of [their] kids for the first time,’ Nikki explains.
Marty also notes the parents have still ‘been taking good care of them and the bonus kids this entire time’ and haven’t just stopped supporting them altogether.

From chipping in for weddings to houses, engagement parties to baby showers, the parents have far from left their kids empty-handed or with coal in their sacks.
But Nikki says it ‘still feels super weird to [her] to not be buying for each one of the kids’.
“And it makes me really happy to see them open, you know, 10 things each. I love to buy them things,” Nikki continues. “But how long can I really continue to do this?”

One social media user said: “I will buy for my kids till I die lol,” while another added: “I just give my kids 500 each. They are 25 and 28 both in college.”
A third commented: “Mine are in their 30’s and we still spend as much as we did when they were little.”
“Mine are 29, 27, 22 and 20. This year we are playing games and winning gifts. It’s time to scale back,” a fourth argued.
A fifth wrote: “My mom still gives us gifts and stockings at 53, 50 and 48. We are all very self sufficient but it makes her happy.”
And a sixth resolved: “Experiences are better. Do something special. Make a memory.”
