It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for and just wait until you see Toothless
The trailer for the live-action remake of How to Train your Dragon has dropped and fans are flooding to social media to weigh in.
Look, we all know the risk that comes with making live-action remakes of much-loved animated classics. So, it’s only fair that fans of the 2010 original movie loosely based on the book series by Cressida Cowell have been anxiously awaiting the latest update for the upcoming release.
Thankfully, How to Train Your Dragon fans don’t have to wait any longer with a first look at the live-action remake dropping today (November 19).
The upcoming fantasy film is written, directed and co-produced by Dean DeBlois, with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel acting as producers too.
Starring Mason Thames as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the trailer is a heart-wrencher from the get go when Hiccup first meets a remake version of Toothless – the dragon we all came away from the animated movie wanting to keep as a pet.
Add in some goose pimple-inducing music and epic scenery and well, is it too early to say we’re onto a winner?
It’s certainly not taken long for fans of the original to weigh in on social media too.
One Twitter user said: “Wait this actually looks really good.”
Another added: “It looks absolutely stunning, i genuinely can’t wait for this.”
A third commented: “I’m so seated.”
A fourth wrote: “It looks AMAZING!! Can’t wait for this!!!”
While someone else added: “My favorite animated trilogy is coming to life!!”
And a sixth resolved: “This is gonna be so underrated. Gonna be Disneys BEST life action movie.”
Starring alongside Thames are the likes of Nico Parker as Astrid Hofferson, Nick Frost as blacksmith Gobber the Belch, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs Ingerman, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout Jorgenson, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut Thorston and Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut Thorston.
Oh, and it would be impossible to forget Gerard Butler – who voices Stoick the Vast from the animated movies AKA Hiccup’s dad – reprises his role for the live-action remake too.
The film’s visual effects are reported as having been provided by Framestore with production VFX supervisor Christian Manz overseeing.
It is currently set for release in theaters on June 13, 2025, but in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for more trailers.
The real question is whether they’ll make a live-action remake of not only the first animated release but all three of the series of feature films – DreamWorks, I’m keeping an eye on you.
