The Mission: Impossible star isn’t the only celebrity to face the wrath of the brand
“Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to buy a Bugatti.”
This would definitely be one of the tamer missions ever presented to Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible, but for Cruise himself it would actually be one of the hardest.
It’s not that the Hollywood star doesn’t have the means to buy himself one of the luxury cars. Hell, with an estimated net worth of approximately $600 million, he could buy a whole fleet of them.

Instead, Cruise faces the roadblock of having been banned from ever purchasing one.
This might not be such a big deal if it was a more common car, but as one of the top car brands in the world, Bugatti’s ban hits a little harder.
The French company is known for having some of the fastest cars on earth, but it’s also known to have tight rules in place for its clientele.
Not only do owners need to spend approximately $21,000 on yearly maintenance – more than the cost of a lot of cars on the market – but they’re also encouraged to change their tires every 10,000 miles.
The cars themselves can cost anywhere from $3 million to $12.5 million (per MotorTrend) – but as I’ve mentioned, it’s not the financial aspect of buying a Bugatti that’s limiting Cruise.
His ban actually comes from an incident that took place in 2006, which has been haunting him ever since.
It all went down at the premiere of Mission Impossible 3, when Cruise was spotted apparently struggling to open the passenger side door of his Bugatti Veyron, inside which his then-wife, Katie Holmes, was waiting to be let free.
Holmes did eventually make it out of the car and on to the red carpet, but the high-profile fumble was enough to catch the attention of Bugatti.
The awkward moment was ultimately deemed too embarrassing for the supercar brand to ever allow it to happen again, resulting in Cruise’s lifelong ban.
Don’t feel too bad for Cruise, though, because he’s actually not alone in the ‘banned from Bugatti’ club.
For one reason or another, stars including Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, Flo Rida, Simon Cowell, and 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button have also been indefinitely banned from purchasing a Bugatti.
Thankfully, Cruise has found solace in other luxury car brands, including the likes of BMWs, Chevrolets and Mustangs, all of which have found a home in his garage at one point or another.
