Orlando Bloom presented his fiancée with an award at last night’s VMAs
When Orlando Bloom introduced his fiancée Katy Perry at last night’s VMAs, fans were left stunned when they realised what her real name is.
The ‘I Kissed a Girl’ singer and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor have cemented themselves as one of Hollywood’s strongest couples, with them welcoming a daughter and getting engaged since they first got together eight years ago.
And the pair are clearly still besotted with each other as they proved to everyone at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards last night (September 11).
Bloom was the one to present Perry with the MTV Video Vanguard Award – which is basically the lifetime achievement award.
He said of his partner in a heartfelt speech: “You fell in love with her as Katy Perry,” before revealing her real name: “I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson.
“You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light, and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and music video she creates. I know her as a mother, as a partner who brings that same love and joy to our family.
“In moments when we’ve most needed it, her music and the remarkable world she creates have brought a sense of joy and laughter, inspiring generations of people from all over the world.”
The British actor continued: “She loves with her whole heart and is kind of irresistible. I see her reflected everywhere in our home, in her love for her work, but especially in her love for her fans.
“Congratulations on this honor, baby. I’m so proud of you. 143. Ladies and gentlemen, the 2024 MTV Video Vanguard Katheryn Hudson. Katy Perry!”
And Twitter, of course, went mad for it, with one user writing: “Orlando you’re making me cry.”
While another typed: “Orlando Bloom calling her ‘Katheryn Hudson’ is CRAZY.”
Bloom also shouted out her seventh upcoming album 143, which is due to be released next Friday (September 20).
143 is a number which the California Girls singer has previously labelled her angel number – they can range from 0 to 999 and each are believed to hold a deep spiritual meaning and energy.
Taking the stage to accept her award, she embraced her fiancé, affectionately kissing him before going into a performance of an array of her songs.
After it she took the mic, saying: “I did that all too on the first day of my period too, can you believe it. Thank you so much MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one and for helping artists extend their worlds beyond a song.
“There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist.”
She added: “There are no decade-long accidents.”
This came after Perry had a hilarious response to Bloom apparently ‘checking out’ Kim Kardashian at a recent charity event, with the ‘Firework’ singer simply saying when asked about it: “I approve.”
Fair play, Katy.
