The incident in China went viral after a video surfaced
We’ve all been on a plane with a crying baby before haven’t we?
The screeching noise might drive you up the wall… but compassion for this small human, who had no choice in the matter when the decision was made for them to hurtle 500mph through the sky in a large chunk of metal, reminds you to calm down.
But not everyone possess such humility, in planes up and down the US you might hear the odd jerk telling the parents to ‘shut that baby up’ or something under those lines – which is awful, but over in China two women allegedly took things to another level.
The incident took place onboard a Juneyao Airlines flight flying direct from Guiyang to Shanghai, which takes a little over two hours, on August 24.
A grandmother allegedly agreed to allow two strangers lock her granddaughter, who is only a toddler, in a plane toilet to ‘educate her’.
It only went viral after one of stranger’s, Gou Tingting, captured the event on her phone as it unfolded, and posted it on Douyin – China’s version of TikTok.

The video shows her carry the little girl, who local media is reporting that she is as young as one, inside the plane toilet before locking her in and allegedly saying she can only leave if she agrees to stop crying.
Immediately she was dubbed a ‘bully’ as users on the platform hit back in defence of the tot.
Taking to the Chinese social media platform Weibo, one user wrote: “We should be thinking about how public spaces can better accept and accommodate young children.”

While another typed: “Children cannot control their emotions when they are one or two years old. What’s wrong with crying? Didn’t you cry when you were young too?”
So what was the woman’s justification as to why she did it?
She said on her Douyin account, which has since been made private: “I just wanted to calm the child down and let everyone rest.”
Adding that she ‘prefers to take action rather than be a bystander’.
In a statement issued by Juneyao Airlines, the little girl’s grandma consented to the strangers locking her in a bathroom.
